Comprehensive multi-method analyses

The conventional histopathological diagnoses are often supplemented by specific immunohisto-chemical and molecular biological methods, e.g. fully automated immunostaiing using special stainer and protocols, next generation sequencing using gene sequencer of the latest generation approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Chinese CFDA etc.. In addtion, artificial intelligenced bases image analyses are becoming more and more relevant for automated quantification of biomarkers. All these technical available to fulfill the requirements for modern tissue-based diagnostics, which often directs the therapy, e.g. hormone receptor/HER2 status of breast cancer, EGFR mutations of lung cancer, BRAF mutations of malignant melanoma, PD-L1 detsction in several tumor entities, tumor.

In many cases, only the combination of these methods enables the pathologist to define disease entities and to correlate them with functional properties. This applies, in particular, to oncology with regards to histogenesis, prognosis, prediction of druge response and drug resistance, as well as to pathology of infectious diseases with queries about pathogen detection/classification, e.g. tuberculosis, viruses, fungi etc. - for details see the following link. To fullfil these tasks, specially trained staff is available.

The lab is participating in round robin tests for quality in assessment of histology, immunohistochemistry and molecular analysespathology, more details see in Quality Management.
